At the age of 91, Grandma still has homemade cookies available when someone stops in to visit. It was both Grandma and my mother-in-law who taught me to freeze cookies. Molasses cookies are just one of good cookies that Grandma bakes. This is her molasses cookie recipe. Molasses cookies are a nice change from our favorite chocolate chip cookies. (I should probably mention that Grandma officially belongs to my husband, but I claim her, too.)
I had baked Grandma's molasses cookies several years ago. This fall I wanted to bake them again, so Grandma emailed me her recipe. Here's Grandma's molasses cookies recipe.

Please note, to store molasses cookies, use wax paper between layers, even if you freeze them.
One of my favorite places is Grandma and Grandpa's farm. Earlier this year I wrote an article about Grandpa that was published in a magazine for Pennsylvania farmers. They are both amazing people who I am grateful for every day. Though they live about five hours from us, recently Little Sister (age 3) has been asking for them. Our children love their great grandparents a great deal.
Other recipes I learned from Grandma and Derek's mom:
Double-Decker Brownies
Fudge Cookie Bars
Caramel Popcorn
Hot Chocolate (Fudge) Sauce

I never knew you could make your own buttermilk! Thanks for the share. I love hearing about recipes past down, they always seem better than your average recipe!
ReplyDeleteFamily recipes are my favorite, there's something so special about them being passed down from generation to generation. I've never had molasses cookies, I'll have to give these a try!
ReplyDeleteI made molasses cookies with my mom when I was in 6th grade. They were a hot mess, but I still remember the smell of them cooking. I might have to try this for my memory's sake. :)
