Homemade Ranch Mix

I've been making homemade ranch mix for quite a while now...maybe as long as a year.  I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to share this recipe.  Our family likes ranch in recipes like bacon ranch chicken, ranch pork chops, and ranch ham roll-ups.  Not only is it less expensive than buying ranch mix in packets, there is no MSG in homemade ranch mix.

Ranch Mix Recipe

1/4 cup onion powder
2 tablespoons garlic powder
2 tablespoons parsley
1 tablespoon basil
2 tablespoons dill weed
1 tablespoon salt

Mix together in a bowl and store in an airtight container.  Three tablespoons is equivalent to one packet of ranch seasoning mix.

If you only mix the ranch mix with a spoon (which is fine) it will appear rather green from the parsley, basil, and dill weed.  However, if you shake it, it looks just like what comes out of the little packets.
I have never made my own ranch dressing from this recipe; I only use it in recipes.  The original inspiration for this recipe is unknown since it has been so long since I first made it.  I do know I combined at least least two recipes.

Just a note: The dill weed can be a bit pricey, but it's still worth it to me to make it myself.

My old baking powder Argo brand container holds the homemade ranch mix.  I removed the label and printed a new one for the ranch on colored paper.  Since the label is fairly small, I simply used packaging tape to secure it.  (On my homemade laundry detergent and dishwasher soap I used Mod Podge.  That is certainly an option here, but more complicated than necessary for the ranch mix).  If you are using the same container as me, I'd be happy to share my label with you.  Just email me.

Do you cook with ranch?  Do you make your own ranch? Tell me your favorite recipe!

  1. Thank you so much for this recipe, as I can't use store-bought ranch mix because it is not gluten and casein free, but this one is!! Yes, I would love your label. Can you send me one?

    1. Thank you! I have not used this to make ranch dressing...just the seasoning mix. We like it. Hope you do, too!

  4. Your recipes always make me smile because they're things I use all the time. You're also the first person to say how much is equivalent to a packet of ranch mix. No one ever does that, much to my frustration.

  7. I've never used ranch seasoning in my cooking -- just ranch dressing for dips. But this is good to know if I ever decided to try it. :) Thanks for sharing via Family Fun Friday.
