A Jesse tree is a visual celebration which connects the Old Testament to the arrival of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. A Jesse tree can also be used as an Advent calendar.
The name comes from Isaiah 11:1.
"A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit."
You can use a real tree, a branch, or a cardboard/paper tree like mine. Add ornaments to represent some of the Truths of Scripture and it becomes a Jesse tree.
I wrote how I created my homemade Jesse tree in a previous blog post, including a link for the printable ornaments. Back then, my friend told me how she used the Jesus Storybook Bible to read along. (That's an affiliate link to Amazon. I earn a tiny percentage if you purchase it through my link at no additional cost to you. You still get 40% off!) I changed some of the ornaments to accommodate the Jesus Storybook Bible. Now you don't have to do that!
HarperCollins now provides an advent calendar printable and reading plan. You could use that cute printable for ornaments on your Jesse tree and have your reading plan for December!
If you do this, I'd love to see a picture of YOUR Jesse tree! Tag This Simple Home on Facebook or Annette Whipple on Twitter. Or show it off in the comments below, if you can.
EDITED: You can now purchase a DIY kit to make your own Jesse Tree wooden ornaments to go with the Jesus Storybook Bible. I haven't used it, but the reviews look good.
Let the Christmas season begin! Merry Christmas!
